Is it a place, a taste, a memory, a dream for the future? Share your PARADISE story with words or imagery. (Submissions focusing on religious deities/systems are generally not the focus of ArtAscent. Nature Nurtures Us exhibit – Phoenix, Arizona

September 15 – November 9
Free Opening Reception: Third Friday: September 15, 6-8pm

The Herberger Theater Center (HTC) will open the second annual Nature Nurtures Us, a two-dimensional exhibit at the Herberger Gallery@Arizona Center, located at 455 N. Third Street, Suite 1200 in Phoenix. The art depicts the visual benefits of our natural world that reduce the stress and mental fatigue of our everyday life. Nature, well-being without side effects.

The public is invited to the free opening reception on Third Friday, September 15, 6-8pm, to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. The artwork by Arizona artists is on display and available for purchase through November 9.

The Herberger Gallery@Arizona Center is a self-funded exhibition program that promotes contemporary art by Arizona artists. A portion of the proceeds from each piece sold benefits the HTC’s Youth Outreach Program.

Sonoran Shades exhibit opening reception – Phoenix, Arizona

The Herberger Theater Center (HTC), located at 222 E. Monroe in downtown Phoenix, invites the public to the free opening reception for Sonoran Shades, an exhibit of paintings by Robert P. Meyer, on First Friday, August 4, 5:30-7:00pm. Meet the artist, enjoy live music by Nick Heward and no-host bar in Bob’s Spot Lounge.

Sonoran Shades is an exploration of shades of color in the desert southwest. Robert draws and paints the spectrum as he sees it, bright and big. How do you see color in your world?

Meyer began drawing at an early age and has always been inspired by the landscapes around him. After graduating from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing, and raising a family with his wife, he opened a design business in Tempe. Meyer incorporates many of the shapes and colors that exist in the desert Southwest flora around him, even in his own backyard.

Curated by Carrie Meyer, the artwork is on display and available for purchase through
August 29. Sponsored by Billie Jo and Judd Herberger, the Herberger Theater Gallery is a self-funded exhibition program that promotes contemporary art by Arizona artists. Gallery hours are weekdays, 10:00am-5:00pm, during performances and by appointment.

Description
The Fund considers proposals from professional artists who have secured tangible prospects for advancing their careers, but lack sufficient financial resources to capitalize on those opportunities. Examples include but are not limited to: the completion of work due to a gallery, museum, or private collection, the transportation of work or of the artist to an exhibition of that artist’s material, the management of logistical or technical requirements to realize a project, etc. The Fund does not support performance, literary or commercial work.

Who Should Apply?
Professional painters, artists working on paper and sculptors who:

  • Employ traditional media, not including photography, film or video.
  • Have received opportunities to exhibit their work
  • Are pursuing specific opportunities for which support from The Fund would make a tangible difference

This national exhibition will be a showcase of roots, where one has come from and how that specific place has shaped their life as an artist. The exhibition will be held at Middle Tennessee State University’s Todd Art Gallery from May 12 – May 29, 2014.

The show is open to all years of undergraduate students in art schools and seeks to showcase a variety of talent in different regions of the United States. Any art form is accepted for consideration and all interpretations of the theme will be considered.

SHOEBOX: AN INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE EXHIBITION

January 16–February 14, 2013

MTSU Todd Art Gallery

A juried competition and exhibition that will feature 3-D work designed to fit within the confines of a typical shoebox, with each applicant free to use a shoebox of choice, from baby-size shoes to boots, as the dimensions of their work.

The juror is Michael Aurbach, a professor of art in sculpture and drawing at Vanderbilt University. His achievements include a term as president of the College Art Association (CAA) and service as coordinator of its Career Development Workshop, an annual mentoring program. A past recipient of the Southeastern College Art Conference Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement, Aurbach has also received numerous grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Southern Arts Federation, and the Tennessee Arts Commission.

12×12: A National Exhibition of Small Scale Works of Art

The Todd Art Gallery of Middle Tennessee State University invites artists from across the United States to submit their artwork (2D and/or 3D) for consideration in our 4th 12×12: A NATIONAL EXHIBITION OF SMALL SCALE WORKS OF ART. Cash awards for University Provost’s Award (Best of Show); College of Liberal Arts Award (1st); Department of Art Award (2nd); Award of Excellence (3rd); and up to five Awards of Merit (Honorable Mention) to be announced January 22, 2013 at a reception for donors to MTSUArts’ Patron Society and a subsequent public Artists Reception that will follow.
Each artist is invited to submit up to 3 pieces.
