Details:
We bathe in the beauty of color and spin thousands of words describing the experience that the cone cells transmit to our brain.  In reality, they are not nearly as numerous as our rods, the cells that register light and dark, the black and white of our experience.  Our rods are less articulated in language; fewer words are generated to describe that experience.  Black & white is primal, the underneath, the foundation, of the opulence of color; black & white is where we register motion and, when the cones do not have sufficient light, our rods optimize our survival in the night woods.  Black & White intends to explore this underground of survival and few words.  Our unique, enormous space affords us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it.

SUBMISSION FORM

The nude, one of the most recognizable subject matter in the history of art. It is the natural human form that can express so much beauty and emotion, but at the same time be highly controversial. Viewed in so many ways, both positively and negatively, from its true representation to idealizing it for what it can be, the human form has changed and moved us greatly over time. We are seeking artwork based on the nude figure that shows skill and dedication to traditional forms, work that focuses on contemporary ideas, as well as pieces that break the barriers of tradition and push the social and psychological buttons to the next level. We hope to find artists that view and present the nude human body in a different, but interesting way through their artwork. All styles from abstract, conceptual, highly realistic, etc., in the forms of nude, semi nude, and implied nude will be accepted.

Deadline: June 25, 2016 – SKETCHORAMA / Sketchbook Exhibition – Minnesota

The New Bohemian Gallery

Sketchbooks have been around for years and are used by everyone, whether for sketching and creating or simply for taking notes, making lists, and keeping information organized. They are a small glimpse into a whole other world of ideas, randomness, complete and unfinished process, and always a beginning to something new. Many times these special books that become an essential part of a person’s life are never seen by anyone other than their owner. In this exhibition we hope to change that by allowing artists to participate and submit a sketchbook for the community to open and explore for themselves. Those that participate will be given a sketchbook to do what ever they would like with, with exception of course. You will have a little over three months to complete your book and send it back to our gallery to be displayed in the exhibition. In addition to having the books on display, at least one image/page from each sketchbook will be selected by the gallery directors to be scanned and printed in a print/poster format. This will then be hung on the walls alongside the sketchbooks in the gallery. There is no specific theme for the sketchbooks in this exhibition, so take your time and come up with some great ideas, and then really get into – draw, write, collage, cut, print, and photograph your way to filling up the pages! We are very excited to bring this fun and interesting exhibition to you later this year, but need your support and participation now to make everything come together. We hope you will join us!
