Gallery 263 is pleased to offer our 700-square foot space to artists of all media and experience levels for 6 weeks in the Summer of 2015.  We strive to give the local Boston and Cambridge community a stake in the process, not just the product, of art making.  Enjoy a comfortable, collaborative environment in which to incubate ideas, fuel discussion, and produce new work.  This is a non-live-in, shared residency opportunity, and will be awarded to up to four solo artists or to one collective of artists.  Artists benefit from full access to our space and amenities, engage the public with at least one outreach event, and conclude their stay with a showcase.

Residency Period: 6 weeks; June 1- July 11, 2015

Thanks to a generous grant from the Cambridge Arts Council, Gallery 263 has been able to cut Residency fees to artists by more than 50% this year.

2015 Studio Fee:  $150 per artist for a residency with four artists ($150 x 4 = $600) OR $600 assessed to a collective of artists

Physical amenities include high tin ceilings and incredible natural light, great community visibility, wireless internet, A/C, plentiful outlets, mini fridge, kitchenware, microwave, approx. 25 folding chairs available, bathroom with toilet, large sink & hot water.

Our supportive staff will help to plan and promote your outreach event and showcase, and is available for discussion and critique throughout the Residency period.

Deadline: July 13, 2014 – Propose an Exhibition for Gallery 263, Cambridge MA

We are currently accepting applications for two Fall 2014 exhibitions. Our Curatorial Proposal Series program provides artists of all media and career levels the opportunity to experiment with the organization and presentation of contemporary art.

Open to group and solo proposals, though groups are encouraged. Exhibitions are each 5 weeks long, during September/October and October/November.  Gallery 263 Staff support and guide CPS artists through the entire exhibition process, and expect a high degree of professional commitment from exhibiting artists and curators.  Online submissions only.  New England artists eligible: MA, NH, CT, RI, VT, ME.

Deadline: May 4, 2014 – Shared Residency Opportunity, Cambridge, MA

Gallery 263 is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to providing a space for local and regional artists of all mediums to exhibit their work and engage the community.

Our Artist Residency offers a unique opportunity to work with other artists and develop either individual or group projects over six weeks in the heart of Cambridge.

700-square-foot gallery/studio space, accepting 3-5 solo applicants or a group/collective of up to 12 artists, to share the space for 6 weeks: June 1 through July 12. Work-only: artists must be living or planning to live in the Boston area for the duration of the residency.

Ideal for emerging artists whose practice embraces collaborative projects, community engagement, and openness to sharing space with other artists. A Northeast-region juried exhibition exploring the multiple meanings of “folk”.  Selected by: Kate McNamara, Director and Chief Curator of the Boston University Art Gallery. ME, MA, NH, VT, RI, CT, NY artists eligible to apply.

You locals have been celebrating Gallery 263 for the past five years. For our second juried exhibition of our fifth year, we want to take a chance to celebrate you, Massachusetts! MA residents, we invite you to submit your best work.

Submission: Online submissions only. Artists may submit up to 6 works. Work in all media is encouraged.

2D (painting, drawing, photography, etc.): May not exceed 60″ in width, 108″ in             height (40 lbs. max).

3D (sculpture, installation): MUST be self-supportive or mountable; may not exceed 108″H x 30″W x 30″D. Installations must be simple to assemble or installed by artist.

Time Media (video, audio): No length restrictions. To submit, provide link(s) to stream or send DVD with files to Gallery 263, 263 Pearl Street, Cambridge, MA 02139. Note: All A/V equipment must be provided by the artist. Please see FAQ for restrictions.

Guest Juror for Massachusetts at Gallery 263, Dina Deitsch, is currently the Curator of Contemporary Art at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, in Lincoln, MA, where she specializes in American and European contemporary art.  Deitsch organized the deCordova’s first-ever regional Biennial in 2010, and has hosted successful Biennials in the years since.  Additionally, Deitsch has organized numerous solo-exhibitions as well as large-scale group exhibitions, most recently addressing the themes of architecture and performance.  Prior to working at the deCordova, she held curatorial positions at the Williams College Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  Deitsch has independently curated for the Boston Center for the Arts, Boston, MA, The Bernard Museum of Judaica, New York, and Art Interactive, Cambridge, MA, and served as the guest juror for the 2012 Northeast Issue of New American Painting.
