Spring Blooms with Color, Culture, and Art in NYC

Travel around the world in twenty-two days with three international art exhibits this April at Agora Gallery. With East Meets West: An Exhibition of Fine Art from Asia, artists from across the globe travel to New York to share their unique perspectives of the Asian contemporary art world. Featuring artists from China, Japan, and South Korea, East Meets West brings new life to the New York art scene. Showing alongside is The Pulse of Abstraction which focuses on global contemporary artists who push the boundaries of abstract art. Featuring works in many media, this exhibition reveals the great variety of what it means to be abstract. Sensorial Perspectives, a show of Agora Gallery artists who work in the overly real, emphasizes texture, depth and the senses in an extraordinary immersive experience. The exhibition invites viewers in and brings them to a new world, where reality and imagination meet and co-exist.

The exhibitions open on March 31st and run until April 21st, 2015. The opening reception for all three shows, which will take place on Thursday, April 2nd from 6-8 PM, will be open to the public.

A Must-See Examination of Humanity: Collective Exhibitions at Agora Gallery – NYC

The dynamism of the world around us comes to the forefront at Agora Gallery this March in two collective exhibitions. The show The Essence of Abstraction examines the nature of human understanding, stripping away the representational to get at the core emotions and concepts of a subject. This group of international artists comes together to create a show of personal interpretations of abstraction. The exhibit Mélange of Milieu takes the opposite approach. Focused on the world around them, this group of artists has devoted themselves to the details of the everyday, representing them from the realistic to the surreal. These intricate and interesting works are sure to make the viewer reexamine the outside world. Together, the shows play off each other: the representational versus the abstract, the internal versus external. This pair of shows is a must-see examination of humanity.
The exhibitions open on March 6th and run until March 26th, 2015. The opening reception, which will take place on Thursday, March 12th from 6-8 PM, will be open to the public.

Beauty of Color, Line and Form at Agora this October – NYC

As summer’s heat subsides and the warm smells of pumpkin and spice break through the cool, crisp air, Agora Gallery opens its doors to new exhibitions of exceptional note. This October, you’ll find a refreshing and diverse selection of work by talented artists from all over the globe. In Beyond Borders: an Exhibition of Fine Art From Canada, contemporary Canadian artists demonstrate their skill as focused through the natural majesties of their country and its cultural influence. Divergent Realities brings forth the work of artists whose close observation of the world acts as a catalyst for the impulses of their own interpretation. In Modalities of Expression the audience is introduced to the richly varied ways in which artists choose to give form to their inner visions and ideas, and the beguiling charm that these forms possess. George Tsatsos: EU-TOPIAS presents the work of a lifelong artist who only recently began to share his creations with others. An explosion of color, geometry, and detail, his paintings allude to greats like Escher and Haring just as much as they forge their own chapter in art history.

Deadline: July 15, 2014 – 1708 Gallery’s InLight Richmond 2014 – Call for Entries

Richmond VA’s 1708 Gallery invites artists working in all media and disciplines to submit proposals for InLight Richmond 2014, 1708’s 7th annual public exhibition of light-based art and performance. InLight 2014 will take place on Friday, November 21 in Monroe Park, one of Richmond’s most historically significant public spaces. The juror for InLight 2014 is Denise Markonish, Curator at MASS MoCA.
Proposals should involve, be inspired by, investigate, or interpret themes of light, from light as medium to light as concept. Additionally, 1708 encourages artists to propose projects that respond to and engage with the site.

The geographic and architectural features that characterize Monroe Park and its surrounding streets—pathways, walls, sidewalks, green spaces, trees, benches, statues, building facades, and more—also mark the intersection of Richmond’s social, political and cultural memory.

In addition to technical and production support, an honorarium of $300 will be given to each project. All projects are eligible for the Best in Show Award ($1500), the Most Environmentally Conscious Award ($1000), and the People’s Choice Award ($500).

Monroe Park is a dynamic and expansive site with a long history. The Park is five-sided with crisscrossed pathways that form a radial pattern from the center. It features a fountain and the Checkers House, a round-house in the middle of the park so named for the frequent checkers games that once regularly took place there. There are monuments to Confederate General Williams Carter Wickham and Joseph Stewart Bryan, a journalist and civic leader in Richmond in the late 19th/ early 20th century, and a memorial to veterans of World War II. Recently the park has received a lot of attention as the community begins to contemplate and decide on its future role within Richmond.

The deadline for submissions is midnight (EST), July 15, 2014.

Deadline: March 5, 2014 – CALL for #artists – art fair GZ-BASEL

OPEN CALL  for #artists –  art fair GZ-BASEL

Artists from all nationalities and using any media – painting, photography, prints, video, installations, sculpture …., may apply forming part of this international art fair for artists.

The works will be rigorously selected in order to have an outstanding quality and to be in line with the excellent level of the leading art fairs like ArtBasel, Scope and Liste who are realizing their presentation during these same dates.
Artists may apply until  5 March.

———————————————

“GZ-BASEL” is decided to form part of the art panorama that occupies Basel next June when world’s leading art fairs – among them ArtBasel, Scope and Liste are opening their doors for the public about at the same dates.

The natural light of the main space, the particular structure of the building, the well accommodated underground area specially suitable for installations, video and small works.

Its garden for fresh air, outdoor sculptures and its excellent location. Just good enough for avoiding the crowded areas and very suitable at the same time to bring plenty of people in minutes to our art fair where they can enjoy an outstanding international conjunction of artworks.

And if this would not be enough, there are plenty of excellent famous art galleries in the near surrounding and also “kunstmuseum basel” is just a few hundred meter walk.

There is a direct tram connection from our art fair to Messeplatz all day and also the railway station is next door.

All these aspects made us decide that this is the right place for our international fair of contemporary art for artists. A place of more than 400m2 where the works can be shown with space and where the quality of the works and the display are priority the way that visitors may have a really surprising art experience and a meeting with the best innovative and experimental art from different continents.
