We are now accepting submissions for Smörgåsbord, our one non juried exhibition held in our gallery every year. We are excited to kickoff our 2016 exhibition schedule with this open call, non juried exhibition, allowing everyone who submits to be included in the show. Based on the Swedish word for an array of various food dishes served at a meal, with this particular exhibition we hope to follow this form of presentation with a wonderful variety of artwork by artists creating in all kinds of mediums. There is no theme for this exhibition leaving the door open for all creative ideas and imagery.

The Arts Council of York County presents the 27th Annual Juried Competition at the Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St., Rock Hill, SC June 16 – September 11, 2016.

The deadline for entries is Friday, May 13, at 5 PM.
This is NOT a postmark deadline for mailed entries.

Winners will be announced at a free, public reception to be held at the Center for the Arts on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 6 PM.

The Juried Competition is open internationally to artists 18 and older. Only original work, created in the last two (2) years, and not previously shown at the Center for the Arts, Dalton Gallery will be accepted. All forms of media are eligible, including video. Limit four pieces per artist.

Entry Fees: Member: $30 for up to two pieces, each additional piece is $10;
Non-members: $40 for up to two pieces, each additional piece is $10.

Judging this year’s competition is Seth Gadsden. Gadsden is an artist, educator, and filmmaker living in Columbia, South Carolina where he is the managing director of the Nickelodeon Theatre and director of the Indie Grits Film Festival. Gadsden was a founding member of the Redux Contemporary Art Center in 2003 in Charleston, SC. In 2006, while pursuing his M.F.A. from Boston University, he founded the Boston Young Contemporaries before helping to form the traveling artist collective Transit Antenna, then spending the following two years developing community based art projects across North America. With a focus on public art, experimental filmmaking, and multimedia installation, Seth has exhibited across the United States and has completed murals and outdoor sculptures in places like Mexico, North Dakota, Boston, Houston and his hometown of Clover, South Carolina.

Exhibition Rules

Established and emerging artists, working in any media are encouraged to submit artwork, including but not limited to: painting, drawing, printmaking, design, photography, ceramics, sculpture, fiber, and video as long as the piece follows the guidelines below.

– Both 2D and 3D artwork will be accepted.

– All 2D artwork must be able to hang on the wall, and be no larger then 6′ x 6′ in size.

– All 3D artwork must be able to either sit on a pedestal of 12″ x 12″, or be able to be free standing within our gallery space.

– All artwork must arrive to the gallery ready to hang or display, with proper wiring and hanging systems, or displaying instructions.

– A limit of 4 pieces will be accepted per artist, with an overall submission fee of $15. Payment can be made through Paypal at the end of the submission form. Fees are nonrefundable.

– All artwork should be clearly labeled with the following: artist’s name, artwork title, medium, dimensions, date of completion, and sale price.

– All artwork will remain in the gallery for the entire time period of the exhibition.

– All artists are responsible for both initial and return shipping of any artwork that is sent to the gallery. Please include any return shipping labels with your artwork.

– The Franklin Arts Center Resident Artists Gallery retains 25% commission of any sales made during the exhibition.

– All artwork, whether dropped off or shipped, must arrive to the gallery by Wednesday, October 14, 2015. Any artwork that arrives after this date will not be included in the exhibition.

– Any artwork that is not picked up after 30 days of the designated pick up date, will be considered abandoned and will then become property of the gallery, and may be disposed of.

– If you are unable to drop off or pick up your artwork on the given dates and times, please contact the Franklin Arts Center Resident Artists Gallery, so other arrangements can be made.

The artwork for this competition should convey the feeling of Fall. It can be about the emotions that we have around events like Halloween and Thanksgiving; the commune with nature as it explodes with all of its brilliance. For our upcoming exhibition, “A Cut Above” we will be presenting collage work created by artists from all over the country in this interesting and visionary exhibition. For this exhibition we are seeking collage artwork from all artists, created with the use of many different styles and techniques. This exhibition is open themed and all imagery will be accepted. We want to see your best collage work, those special eye catching and thought provoking pieces that are “a cut above” the rest. Artists can submit up to six pieces to be included in the show. Deadline: Oct. 11, 2015 – Autumn – Call for Entries

Crisp air, colorful leaves and the beginning of the end to a new year, are just some reasons to love the autumn season! In this call we want to see your interpretation of art that typifies this beautiful season!

Calls are open to all local, domestic, national and international professional and amateur artists. All art mediums will be considered in this call for submissions, from photography, wall sculpture, fabric, mixed media, all paintings and drawings including, oil, acrylic, pastels, ink, graphite, etc. Sizes up to 12 feet are acceptable. Work must be able to be hung on a wall to be considered for the live exhibition. Freestanding 3D artworks will be displayed online only. We are now accepting video and poetry entries for online shows.

Accepted entries for this online exhibition will be judged again in the coming months for a collective live exhibition at our Los Angeles gallery. The artists will be asked if they wish to submit their artwork for the collective exhibition, which is not a requirement to being a part of the online exhibition.

Deadline: Sept. 30, 2015 – Montage – Call for Entries

Sometimes the process of making art is more intuitive or experimental, as opposed to a strict adherence to traditional artistic practice/technique. In this call we want to see mixed media, collage work or any art that combines various mediums and/or produced unconventionally!

Deadline: Aug. 24, 2015 – “Semi-Annual Open II” Art Call for an online exhibition

“Semi-Annual Open II” There is no “theme” for this Art Call for this exhibition; it is open to all subject matter. The curator and judges will select work based on the originality, uniqueness of the vision conveyed, quality of execution and how clearly the artist’s individual technique/style is presented in each work. Entry fees: $20 for 1 image, $10 for each additional image.

Deadline:  August 24, 2015

Awards: Ten artists will be selected for the group exhibit. The exhibit will be extensively marketed and featured in our Art Market Newsletter with over 16,000 subscribers.
