Deadline: July 10, 2017 – Call to Artist “Dreams 3”

For a group exhibit at Gallery 25N online.

Details: http://art-competition.net/G25N_Dreams_3.cfm

Submission Deadline: July 10, 2017 (Midnight EST)
Curator Selection: July 24, 2017
Artists Notification: July 31, 2017
Exhibit Opens: August 9, 2017

Twenty artists will be selected for an online group exhibit, “Dreams 3”, at Gallery25N online; the exhibit and the artists will be extensively marketed worldwide to over 26,100 people including art buyers, gallery owners, curators, collectors, etc.

Theme: “Dreams 3” – The curators are looking for artwork based on dreams. Dreams are windows into what might be called a “substitute” reality that we all experience. Reflections upon our dreams can have a fleeting effect or a significance that may haunt us for a lifetime. The visual artist can offer safe refuge to the viewer, a connection to these dreams at our invitation as we appreciate the creative avenues we discover through their art. The artist has this opportunity to present a dream as a hazy filtered reality from representational memories to an explosion of abstract and surrealistic imagery—all of which may be emotionally treasured as his or her own. Your submissions must offer such imagery, as iconic message or deeply private statement.

Eligibility & Mediums: This competition is open to all artists/photographers 18 years of age or older. Submissions for consideration can be expressed in any of the following aspects: representational, expressionism, surrealism, or abstraction. Entries must be created in any still medium: painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, digital art, prints, fiber art, collage, installations.

Deadline: July 15, 2017 – International Call for Artists for Online Art Competition, “ALL Weather of the Seasons”

Sensorial Realities: Voyages Onward – NYC

In Sensorial Realities, Agora Gallery’s new group exhibition, every canvas on the wall is a portal to a different world. The nine artists featured here offer some of the most seductive alternative universes a viewer can hope for, whether it’s a reinterpretation of Gilded Age portraiture or a compression of twenty-first century concerns into a surreal landscape. They create spaces out of oil, acrylic, stone, ceramic, and mixed media which break down barriers and open up new ideas.

Some pieces on display are outright landscapes. There are stripped-down paintings of endless plains, which are made inviting by simplifying the brushstrokes yet unknowable by taking away the horizon line. There are scenes of single people amongst their own place in the land – at once less intimidating but more psychologically fraught. There are classic views of merry seas and beautiful gardens that are made contemporary with their exaggerated colors and forceful compositions. Then there are the “worlds” of another kind: probing portraits, abstracted color fields, and symbol-laden tableaux.

Sensorial Realities opens July 5 and runs through July 25, 2017 with an opening reception Thursday, July 6 from 6 – 8 pm. Entrance is free.

Exhibition Dates: July 5  – July 25, 2017

Deadline: July 31, 2017 – InLight Richmond 2017 Call for Proposals

1708 Gallery invites national and international artists working in all media and disciplines, including performance, to submit proposals for our 10th annual InLight Richmond.

InLight 2017 will take place on Friday, November 3, 2017, from 7pm to midnight, in Richmond’s Arts and Culture District. InLight is a public exhibition of light-based artworks—videos and projections, multi-media and interactive projects, sculptures, installations, performances and a Community Lantern Parade.

InLight 2017 will take as its inspiration the Electric Carnival, a street festival that enlivened Broad Street in 1901. The Electrical Carnival featured a replica of the Eiffel Tower that was illuminated remotely by President Roosevelt via a telegraph key from the White House.

Proposals for InLight 2017 should involve, be inspired by, investigate, or interpret themes of light, from light as medium to light as concept. While existing work will be considered, 1708 Gallery encourages artists to propose projects that consider themes central to the Electric Carnival— technology, globalism, carnivals.

DEADLINE TO APPLY: Midnight (EST), Monday, July 31, 2017

Potential sites for installations and performances include pathways, façades and other walls, sidewalks, green spaces, trees, and more. In addition, a limited number of interior sites may be available. Artists may propose a specific site for both pre-existing and site-responsive works. Please indicate if your work is site-specific on your entry form. 1708 Gallery reserves the right to make final assignments.

The juror for 2017 is Nat Trotman, Curator of Performance and Media at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

Unbound Perspectives and The Elixir of Color: Contemporary Conversations – NYC

This June Agora Gallery presents a pair of exhibitions that generate a unique and essential dialogue between them. Unbound Perspectives, a group exhibit featuring thirteen artists from all over the world, presents a holistic look at the current state of contemporary art. From ink to photography to wood inlay, Unbound Perspectives examines the way image making has changed just in the last few years – perhaps even in the last few minutes. It is an exhibition on the cutting edge.

The Elixir of Color is a solo showcase for the remarkable body of work of painter Sherry Rinderer. Though Rinderer’s pieces tend to share some characteristics, including a degree of abstraction and an outsized scale, her approach varies as widely as the thirteen styles on display in Unbound Perspectives. She is interested in the interplay of textures with one painting, and in the directionality of line in another. In one she layers colors with the softness of an Impressionist; in another she color-blocks her canvas as jarringly as any De Stijl painter. Rinderer is both a chameleon and an auteur.

Both exhibitions open June 10 and run through June 30, 2017 with a joint opening reception on Thursday, June 15 from 6-8 pm. Entrance is free.

Exhibition Dates: June 10  – June 30, 2017

Reception: Thursday, June 15,2017, 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Deadline: June 30, 2017 – “Abstract” International Call For Artists and Writers by ArtAscent

| Theme:
Abstractions are all around us. Ideas can be abstract; existing as an idea, feeling or quality but not having a tangible existence. Some conversations can be abstract, vague and theoretical and not based on particular examples or facts. And of course, there is abstract art which evokes feelings without trying to realistically represent the appearance of people or things. Abstract art, like poetry, offers a fragment of a mysteriously familiar narrative without directly revealing it in a realistic way. Reveal your most ABSTRACT thoughts.

| Eligible Submissions:
Entries may include 2- and 3-dimensional media, such as paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media, installations, ceramics, jewelry, fabric, sculpture, fiction, poetry, short stories and other written explorations (up to 900 words). Submissions must be the original work of the applicant(s). Apply using the online form.

| Highlights:
Be profiled, get published, and shine on! Up to 40 applicants will be selected. Plus, if you are chosen as one of the top 4 applicants, you will also be highlighted in a feature section with a profile written about you and your work. All selected artists and writers are showcased in the magazine and the juried online exhibition.

| About ArtAscent:
The mission of ArtAscent is to promote artists of images and words, and connect them with art lovers. This is accomplished by calls for artists and writers, artist profiling, art magazine publication, and artist and writer online showcasing. Each call is theme based, with the intent to showcase diverse creative explorations of that theme via various media. This marketing tool is created by artists and writers, for artists and writers.

Portal to Dreams, Elemental Realms, and Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography – NYC

Wojciech Tut Chechliński,Wisdom,Oil on Canvas,46''x32''

Agora Gallery ventures deep into the imagination this May with three group exhibitions of extraordinary range. Portal to Dreams collects six daring artists, several of whom are painters playing with the limits of colors and shape in abstraction. There is also a digital artist who creates uniquely slow-paced animations and another who riddles traditional narrative scenes with intriguing gaps. Elemental Realms brings together a select group of artists with the objective of interrogating texture, both within and on top of the painted surface. A few different participants put the medium of paint through its paces: dabbing it, tossing it, cracking it, and layering it. One artist combines acrylic with gold leaf to create a new kind of physical texture that enters the viewer’s space in a subtle way. In both of these shows, traditions are overturned and expectations are defied.

Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography is an examination of the storytelling qualities of photography. Whether they’re using surreal compositions, extreme close-up, unnaturally saturated colors, or pointed symbolism, these artists take digital photography to new heights.

All three exhibitions open May 19, 2017 and run through June 8, 2017 with a joint opening reception on May 25 from 6-8 pm. Entrance is free.

Margaret Strickland, Charlotte based photographer, has been making portraits of family, friends, and strangers for over a decade. Born and raised in Valdosta, Georgia, Margaret was influenced by cultural norms of the Deep South — a foundation that would later surface as an undercurrent in her work. Margaret’s work explores concepts of gender identity and performance, expectations of the self and of society, and the confluence of these ideas in the constructed poses of intimate portraits. We bathe in the beauty of color and spin thousands of words describing the experience that the cone cells transmit to our brain.  In reality, they are not nearly as numerous as our rods, the cells that register light and dark, the black and white of our experience.  Our rods are less articulated in language; fewer words are generated to describe that experience.  Black & white is primal, the underneath, the foundation, of the opulence of color; black & white is where we register motion and, when the cones do not have sufficient light, our rods optimize our survival in the night woods.  Black & White intends to explore this underground of survival and few words.  Our unique, enormous space affords us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it.

Juror:

Theme: “Flowers, Plants & Gardens” – Flowers and plants have inspired visual artists and photographers throughout history to create some of their most beautiful, emotional, and memorable works of art.  Regardless of art form, when an artist becomes “blocked,” nature frequently offers him or her a new spiritual foundation and inspiration as they pursue their creative journey. Flowers, plants, and gardens symbolize continual rebirth, fresh beginnings, fragile persistence, and alluring symmetry. Whether it is a single flower, a garden in full aromatic bloom or a “shy” plant on a window sill, there is no mistaking the awesome complexity of the planet’s precious myriad types of vegetation.  This abundance of flowers and greenery inspires and challenges the creative mind to redefine and/or simply glorify their splendor.

Expanding Expectations: Portal to Enigma, Persistence of Form, and The Fire Within – NYC

This spring Agora Gallery presents a trio of exhibitions that elevate tradition. The group exhibition Portal to Enigma takes on abstraction, with participating artists depicting people, nature, and everyday life through various aesthetic lenses. Some play with color, some play with pattern, some even attempt to turn the invisible visible and play with time. There are also pieces that are purely non-representational studies in repetition, brushstroke, and tone contrasts. A smaller collective exhibition, Persistence of Form, seeks to tease more out of the realist style. The featured work runs the gamut from hyperrealistic to dreamily idealized. The exhibition evokes an incredible variety of emotions using forms and symbols that are easily recognizable.

The gallery’s solo exhibition, The Fire Within: A Solo Exhibition of Ceramics by Susan Kadish, is a celebration of sculptor Susan Kadish’s deep knowledge of ceramic techniques and cultural curiosity. Kadish’s body of work includes firing applications from all over the world, and representative figures as well as vessels. Her imagination is as impressive as her technical range.

All three exhibitions open on April 25, 2017 and run through May 16, 2017, with an opening reception on April 27 from 6-8 pm. Entrance is free.

Exhibition Dates: April 25, 2017  – May 16, 2017
